Asheville Youth Cycling

BioWheels is offering “Dirt Kids” through the Asheville Youth Cycling program. Jon Sarver & Matt Johnson are excited to offer a monthly workshop for kids, and their parents. Both Matt & John have over 30 years of riding experience. Both are considered 1st generation (albeit late) mountain bikers & have evolved with the technology.  Our goal is to help parents feel comfortable taking their children into the woods on mountain bikes. If we can help nurture some real enthusiasts, that’s a bonus. Most importantly, we will enjoy the woods & our time together.

The first 2 dates are set for Saturday, February 23rd and Saturday, March 22nd.

  • We will meet at Boyd Branch trailhead in Bent Creek @ 9am. (Go past Rice Pinnacle & Hard Times on Wesley Branch, veer right at fork onto gravel, then 1st lot on right).
  • We will not ride if precipitating, or if the trails are muddy. Check back here on Friday night for an update, if there is any question.
  • An RSVP is very important.  Email mailto:mj@biowheels.com, or stop by BioWheels.
  • There is no fee. Your ‘good will’ is all we need.
  • Helmet required, gloves recommended. Matt & Hyla have spent many hours in the woods.
  • We will finish by 1pm.
  • Disclaimer- Mountain biking can be challenging & potentially dangerous. Do not come if you do not understand the inherent dangers of riding a bike.
  • Download & sign this waiver before you arrive.
    Waiver for ‘Dirt Kids’ -thanks!

Important- All bikes need to brought to a bike shop for a safety check before this event, as we are not planning to spend time working on any bikes. BioWheels will provide free estimates, and 10% off basic tune-up adjustments to all participants who RSVP.

  1. Sounds very fine. Age and skill levels? I have a 6 and 10 year old. Both ride a bit. Some and pretty well respectively.
Anticipated start time? may have a conflict on the 23rd.
    Hope to participate

  2. As long as the kids are either on 2 wheels already, or can ride on a Trail-A-Bike with their parent. At this time, we are targetting beginners who have no physical restrictions or medical conditions. We expect to start at 9am, and plan to start at the Boyd Branch parking area in Bent Creek. Expect a total of 4 miles this first day. Thanks & Peace -MJ
